Adam Ewan: biography and credits

Adam Ewan is a British actor working in theatre, television and film. He trained at the Bristol Old Vic Theatre School and has since appeared in productions for the National Theatre, both at its South Bank home and on tour, at the Park Theatre, and at Shakespeare's Globe, and on screen for the BBC, ITV, Sky, Netflix, Channel 4 and Warner Bros among others.

Career

Training and first role

Adam trained at the Bristol Old Vic Theatre School. His first role after graduating was in the British independent film Morris: A Life with Bells On (Twist Films), a spoof documentary about the quintessentially English pastime of Morris dancing.

Theatre

For the National Theatre he appeared in both runs of Small Island, and in My Country: A Work in Progress. He played the lawyer Grové in African Gothic at the Park Theatre, a performance The Independent said brought “just the right note of nerdy officiousness” to the role. Other stage work includes Much Ado About Nothing at the RSC Swan, A Midsummer Night's Dream at Theatre Royal Bristol and The Wind in the Willows at the Redgrave Theatre.

He has performed several times with Read Not Dead at Shakespeare's Globe, the series of staged readings of rarely performed plays from Shakespeare's era, including A Christian Turn'd Turk and The Honourable History of Friar Bacon and Friar Bungay.

Television

His television credits include Fleabag and The Living and the Dead for the BBC, Endeavour for Mammoth Screen and ITV, Top Boy for Netflix, The Capture for BBC and Heyday, Brassic for Sky, Kiri for Channel 4, The Spanish Princess for Starz and Magpie Murders for Eleventh Hour Films. He also appeared in the screen version of My Country for the National Theatre, Cuba Pictures and BBC Worldwide.

Film

In film, he has appeared in Armando Iannucci's The Death of Stalin, Matthew Warchus's Pride, and Fantastic Beasts: The Crimes of Grindelwald for Warner Bros, as well as The Chameleon and A Closed Book.
